A dinner buffet is being held Tuesday at Taj Café to raise funds for a Kelowna family stricken with a rare and fatal disease.
Debbie White, a 36-year-old wife and mother of two, was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease in July.
Debbie’s husband, Mike, has taken time off from work to be with his wife and their two young children, and the owner of a local restaurant has decided to hold a fundraiser to try and help offset some of the costs and lost income.
“They’ve been coming in since we opened five years ago,” said Taj Café owner/operator Sean Khurana, who organized the dinner buffet.
“When I heard what was happening to them, I knew I had to try to help somehow. I’ve got kids so it really hit home for me.”
The buffet will take place August 20, at Taj Café, 104-1726 Dolphin Ave, on the first floor of the Landmark 1 building.
Cost is $15/person.
“100% of the money we bring in is going right to the family,” said Sean.
