Apple Triathlon results

Another Apple Triathlon is in the books and local endurance racers once again made the Okanagan proud.
On the ladies side, Kelowna resident Malindi Elmore finished just two seconds shy of Calgary's Sarah Macarthur, with a time of 2:15:30 to claim second place.
For safety reasons, athletes enter the water in age groups at different intervals and a timing chip is worn on the athletes ankle to keep track of individual times. This means the top athletes are up against the clock rather than an overall opponent and racers never really know where they are in the race.
On the men's side, Nathan Champness of Vernon finally broke through the two hour mark, finishing in a time of 1:59:39 and securing himself the win. Previous winner Tom Evans of Penticton couldn't quite continue his Apple Triathlon dominance and slipped to sixth place with a time of 2:03:05.
Carlos Lesser of Victoria and Ryan Smiley of Vancouver came in second and third respectively and Joe Wessel was the first Kelowna athlete to finish in a time of 2:08:29.
In the Sprint distance event, Anthony Toth of Chiliwack took home first prize, as his consistency in all disciplines gave him a two-minute edge over Alex Hansen of Cochrane, Alberta and Kyle Moore from Calgary.
