Firestorm: Out of the Ashes premiered Friday night to an appreciative, sold-out audience at the Paramount Theatre on Bernard Avenue in Kelowna.
The Kelowna Professional Fire Fighters Charitable Society made a special point of thanking Ascent Films Inc. for the spectacular premier of the hour-long documentary.
Audience members interviewed at its conclusion seemed unanimous in their kudos for the film which commemorates the 10th anniversary of the Okanagan Mountain Forest Fire and received great reviews from those same film goers.
FIrefighters on hand also made a point of offering their special thanks to director, Jiri Bakala and writer/producer, Melissa Johnson.
Firestorm is a documentary film that celebrates the spirit of community, and the heroism of the firefighters, police, and an untold number of volunteers who devoted their time helping others during one of the most dramatic events in the history of Canada: the Okanagan Mountain Forest Fire of 2003.
Ten years later, the film searches for untold stories and unpublished images to evoke the memories of the Okanagan residents who lived through the fateful days of August 2003. It will reflect on how the fire shaped and changed their lives. It will give back to the community that gave so much to so many.
This film will be offered for a TV broadcast, film festival screenings, as well as the community premiere celebration. Subsequently, the goal is to use DVD sales of the film as a fundraiser for the KFD.
DVDs of the documentary will be available for a couple of weeks at the main fire station located at 2255 Enterprise Way between 8:00am and 4:00pm at a cost of $20.00 each with all proceeds going to The Kelowna Professional Fire Fighters Charitable Society.
Ascent Films Inc. is an award-winning Canadian film and TV production company and a post-production boutique located in Kelowna.
