Fundraiser for Kelsey Serwa
Aug 17, 2013 / 7:27 am
The Olympic quest for gold is officially on in Kelowna..... and being funded by tea!
On Sunday, September 15, My Tea Blending Room, in participation with Big White Ski Resort and Kelowna Mountain will be hosting an afternoon tea and sunset tea & dinner with Olympic athlete Kelsey Serwa, of Kelowna.
Both events are fundraisers to help the local athlete on her quest for Olympic gold. She will be participating in ski cross at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Serwa has designed and created her very own teas with the help of My Tea Blending Room. Each of these five (5) teas will be served throughout each event, both hot and chilled and will be infused in each dish. As well, guests will have an opportunity to enjoy some tea cocktails. The teas will be available for retail at the event and at various outlets throughout the Okanagan from September 15 through the end of the February. All the proceeds from each sale of tea will go directly to Kelsey. For retail locations, please see www.myteablendingroom.com
In the afternoon, guests will enjoy a Lyon Inspired High Tea experience. Celebrity Chef Michael Lyon will be preparing some tea infused savoury dishes, while Sandrine’s Bakery will be serving up some tea infused desserts. This is a family event and we encourage everyone to participate. Not only will the food be spectacular, so will the view from Kelowna Mountain. The Loose Moose will also be joining us, handing out goodies to the kids. Children are encouraged to dress their best and bring their favourite stuffed friend to enjoy the experience with them.
The Sunset Tea and Dinner will consist of eight (8) regional chefs, paired with local farms to produce the most amazing tea infused dishes. Guests will also have the opportunity to take his/her picture with Kelsey, enjoy some spectacular tea infused cuisine, listen to some amazing entertainment and support Kelsey through a Silent Auction. Some items that have been donated include a pair of Big White 50th
Anniversary Limited Edition Ski Logic Skis signed by Kelsey, a day to ‘Ski & Tea’ with Kelsey, Accommodation & Ski Packages, Signed copies of Sportsnet's Magazines "The Beauty of Sport" Edition, food and drink packages, custom tea blending packages, Ski Cross Apparel and more.
Some of the local chefs, restaurants, farms and other local supporters participating include: Paul Cecconi from Taste Brodo, La Bussola, Urban Fare’s Bistro, Brock Farms, Kuipers Family Farm, Paynter’s Market, Claremont Ranch Organics, Bounty Cellars, Perseus Winery, Maple Springs Distillery and Big Surf Brewery.
Serwa, a native to Kelowna, started skiing at a young age. With her grandfather, Cliff Serwa, co-founding Big White Ski Resort in the early 1960's it was inevitable that Kelsey would lead a life greatly influenced by the skiing community.
From the age of six she progressed from level to level in the alpine world. In 2007 she was named a member of the Women's National Development Team for Canada. In 2009 the avid alpine racer made the decision to try her luck at the newest Olympic discipline, ski cross. Kelsey took the World Cup ski cross tour by storm, making a name for herself instantaneously. Since 2009 she has won 7 World Cup races, earned 13 World Cup podium finishes and the prestigious titles of World Champion, X-Games gold medalist, Olympian, National Champion, and two-time South American Champion.
Still eager for improvement, the Kelowna skier has her sights set on becoming the overall World Cup champion, reigning World Champion, and an Olympic gold medalist in the years to come.
My Tea Blending Room is an on-line community where tea lovers, chefs, foodies and celebrities can custom blend their very own tea in small quantities and have it delivered directly to his/her door. Through personal experience, curiosity and education, customers will not only be able to share and learn from one another but be able to express themselves in a new creative way.
Tickets can be purchased by clicking here Tickets for the afternoon tea are $40 per ticket and the Sunset Tea & Dinner is $125 per ticket. There are also limited VIP tickets available for the evening event for the price of $500 each. VIP tickets include a nights stay at Bottega Farm Inn and Studio, transportation to and from the evening event and breakfast the next morning with Kelsey Serwa.
