A look inside the new yacht club

Sawchuk Developments Co. Ltd. of Kelowna has won the bid to build the new Kelowna Yacht Club.
The two storey, 24,100 square foot yacht club is being built on the site of the former Water Street Senior's Centre.
"Words cannot express how excited our members are to finally be taking this step," says yacht club Commodore, Elton Ash.
"A tremendous effort has been made by our members, volunteers, the staff at the City of Kelowna and our architects Meiklejohn Architects which will now result in an absolute jewel of a building for Kelowna's waterfront."
Ash says the process of purchasing the lot and positioning the building at the northern end of Stuart Park is the result of considerable foresight and sound planning by the city.
"They saw the opportunities and helped us to realize our dream. A lot of credit has to go to the city for helping us get to this point."
Kelowna's Park and Public Space Project Manager, Andrew Gibbs says the city saw the yacht club's plan as an opportunity to enhance the northern end of Stuart Park.
He says the new building will complement both the public access and enjoyment of the park as well as continue with the overall look and feel of the structures in the park.
Construction is expected to begin soon with completion sometime next summer.
