Police drew their guns to take down a knife wielding Prince George man on Wednesday near Orchard Park Mall.
RCMP received reports of a man with a knife walking from Springfield Road near Ziprick Road towards the mall, around 4:30 p.m.
Cst. Kris Clark says witnesses reported a series of events involving the man until police made contact at the Cooper Road entrance to The Bay near the bus loop.
"The man was observed to have a knife in his possession and police drew their sidearms and a conducted energy weapon in response to the elevated threat level. Officers did not discharge either their sidearms nor the conducted energy weapon as the situation was successfully de-escalated through their communication with the man."
The suspect was taken into custody within a short time without further incident.
No injuries were reported in any of the incidents. The investigation is ongoing.
A 32-year-old Prince George man faces potential charges of Mischief and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. He was released on a Promise to Appear for Court on August 15, 2013.
