Kelowna celebrated its third annual Vaisakhi parade this afternoon as a procession of motorcycles, floats, music and dancers made their way down Rutland Road.
Thousands turned out to either participate in the parade or watch from the sidelines as colourful Sikh clothing filled the street.
In Sikhism, Vaisakhi is one of the most significant holidays in the Sikh calendar, commemorating the establishment of the Khalsa at Anandpur Sahib in 1699, by the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh.Vaisakhi is also the ancient harvest festival in the Punjab region, which also marks the beginning of a new year.
The celebrations will continue through the weekend at the Sikh temple in Rutland.
