Just days before the official closure of the Crossroads Treatment Centre, Interior Health has issued a 'Request For Proposals' (RFP) for its replacement.
The RFP, issued Tuesday, seeks withdrawal management (detox) and intensive residential treatment services for the Kelowna area.
This means new residential treatment services and detox centre could be up and running by June.
Interior Health says it will consider proposals from qualified applicants able to provide program management, clinical oversight, housing and hospitality services for eight to 12 detox beds and a minimum of 20 intensive residential treatment beds.
Withdrawal management and residential treatment are currently delivered through two contracts with Crossroads Treatment Centre in Kelowna.
The contract for residential treatment services ends on March 28 while the contract for detox services continues until June 30.
"While Crossroads provided residential treatment services to a broad clientele, including those from outside the health region, the new contract prioritizes services to those people living within Interior Health," says Shannon Hopkins, CIHS Administrator for the Central Okanagan.
"As a result, the request for proposals is for 20 residential beds as opposed to the current 38 beds provided at Crossroads."
Hopkins says IH recognizes the importance of having a full range of services in place for people who struggle with substance use including options for detox and residential care.
"Now that the RFP has been issued, we're looking forward to working with the successful proponent to ensure these valuable services are in place for those who need them."
Adults accessing these services are most likely to be those with more complex and/or chronic substance use issues.
In these cases, community-based treatment services have not been effective or it's been determined individuals require a therapeutic environment away from their usual living situation.
The RFP closes April 19. IH hopes to award the contract in May.
