The Kelowna’s Gospel Mission 30K Club is organizing the second annual Coldest Night of the Year fundraising  walk Saturday February 23.

More than 100 Kelowna residents have registered to walk and will join the thousands across Canada who are participating in the event.

In Kelowna, the money raised for the walk will go back to helping the homeless, hungry and hurting in this community. 30K Club Coordinator and local walk organizer, Jessica Samuels, says the goal is to raise $30,000, the proceeds of which will go back to the programs and services offered by the 30K Club at Kelowna’s Gospel Mission.

“It’s a unique idea because participants will be walking at night and it looks like we’ll be getting a little bit of snow too. Yes we’ll all be cold, but for those few short hours we will have a small idea of what it feels like for individuals in our city who won’t be going home to a nice warm bed at the end of the evening,” says Samuels

The 5 and 10KM walks get underway at 5pm (4pm registration) at First United Church (721 Bernard) and wraps up with a hot chili dinner.

Participants can register a team or join the existing 30K Club Team ahead of time online or at the start location on the day of the event, .
