Alleged drunk had child in car

A 36-year-old Kelowna woman faces numerous charges after allegedly: driving drunk, hitting another car and blowing well in excess of twice the legal limit.

When she was pulled over police were shocked to discover a three-year-old in the backseat.

Cst. Kris Clark says the vehicle, a blue Volvo, hit a parked car in the area of Lakeshore and Bluebird roads in the Mission and continued on her way towards downtown.

Witnesses say she was driving in the wrong lane, her head was bobbing in an apparent sleep-like-state and the front passenger tire was flat from the collision

"The tire quickly disintegrated but the woman driving the car seemed oblivious to the damage as well as other vehicles, barely avoiding numerous collisions," says Clark.

"As the woman turned onto Richter Street she narrowly missed a police vehicle as well as another motorist before coming to a stop."

Clark says police observed symptoms of gross impairment and took the woman to the detachment where she provided breath samples in excess of two and a half times the legal limit.

The woman was apparently on her way to pick up her six-year-old child from school.

The three-year-old child in the vehicle was not injured.

Both children have been turned over to the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

The woman faces charges including Impaired Driving and Failing to Remain at the Scene of an Accident.

She was released on a Promise to Appear at a later date.
