Trudeau comes to town
Jan 22, 2013 / 9:39 pm

Liberal MP Justin Trudeau spoke to a crowd of people at UBC Okanagan Tuesday night on his cross-country bid to win the hearts of Canadians and the leadership of his party.
"The Liberal Party is not just irrelevant here in Kelowna," he said. "We're in danger of becoming irrelevant everywhere."
"We've got a long way to go."
The Party faces an uphill battle, with only 35 of 308 seats in the House, but the charismatic son of the 13th Prime Minister (Pierre Elliot Trudeau) wants that to change.
"For too many years we were thinking of us, the Liberal Party, and not us, the country," he said.
"But Liberals don't get to pick the next Prime Minister of Canada, Canadians do."
"Help us get it right."
Topics ranged during the 90-minute talk from foreign policy to abortion rights, and there followed a chance for local residents to ask questions.
When asked about negative campaigning, he appeared ready to fight, if necessary.
"I don't want to engage in a race to the bottom, but I'm not going to sit back passively and let someone attack me."
"We will respond to attack ads."
As expected, a good portion of time was spent reassuring the crowd that regions in the West are just as important as those in Ottawa.
"Every riding is important," he said.
