Hyatt sentencing on hold

by Ragnar Haagen - Story: 86200

Family members of the girl convicted of manslaughter in the death of Ashlee Hyatt will have to wait before finding out whether she will be sentenced as a youth or as an adult.

For the second time in as many months, the matter of sentencing has been adjourned – this time until the end of February.

The judge presiding over the case has still not received a pre-sentence report, which essentially provides a picture of the accused as a person in society and can be used for determining sentencing.

Hyatt was killed on June 2, 2010 when she was stabbed at a Peachland house party.

The teenage girl convicted of the crime was found not guilty of second-degree murder late last year and cannot be named because of a publication ban.
