More motorists were pulled over for impaired driving in Kelowna than any other city in Canada in 2011.

That according to the latest figures released Thursday by Statistics Canada.

According to the numbers RCMP reported 1,063 impaired driving incidents in 2011, a rate of 583 per 100,000 population.

That's an increase of 76 per cent over figures 10 year previous.

The national average is 262 incidents per 100,000 population.

The survey ranked only those Canadian cities with populations of 100,000 or more.

St. John's Newfoundland is number two with 560 impaired incidents per 100,000 population followed by Regina with 369.

Three other BC communities joined Kelowna in the top 10.

Those include Abbotsford-Mission (4th - 367 per 100,000), Victoria (6th - 342) and Vancouver (9th - 296).

Provincially, BC ranked seventh with 412 impaired incidents per 100,000 population, a 49 per cent increase from 10 years previous.
