Hockey players score against hunger
Here is a letter from Corrinne Reid, Director of Hockey Operations Kelowna Minor Hockey Association:
It is with extreme pleasure and great pride that I announce the results of the 2012/13 KMHA Fill the Net with Food Drive.
Every season I think we have peaked with this campaign and every season the amazing Kelowna Minor Hockey families prove me wrong. With the support of many of our 80 teams Kelowna Minor Hockey Association donated 7500 pounds of food and a whopping $11,305 in cash this morning to the Kelowna Community Food Bank and the Cast-A-Light Campaign.
Congratulations to the Bantam Recreational Stars team on what was an unprecedented effort. This team alone came up with over 200 pounds of food and a staggering $4110 in cash. The Stars will have "A day with the Rockets" in the New Year.
KMHA would like to say a special thanks to the WHL Kelowna Rockets on partnering with us each and every season in our Fill the Net Campaign. Their participation in this amazing event is the motivation for many of our teams to go the extra mile to help the needy families of our community. We would like to give an honourable mention to our Peewee Tier 4 Jr. Rockets and our Atom Recreational Nighthawks who also made extremely generous donations to this very worthy cause.
To the Kelowna Community Food Bank Volunteers in particular Jerry and Ameila for loading thousands of pounds of food into their truck and getting it to the Food Bank on our behalf - you are truly Christmas angels!!
To Lanetta, Dave, Linda & Mike at the Kelowna Community Food Bank - thank you so much for the amazing work you do.
