Cougar sightings on UBCO campus
There have been a number of cougar sightings on the UBCO campus in the last four or five days, according to Bud Mortenson, director of university relations for UBC-Okanagan.
The first was early Sunday morning, followed by another Tuesday evening and the most recent on Wednesday afternoon around 3 p.m..
Kelowna RCMP officers responded on Wednesday and the conservation officer for Kelowna has also been alerted to the situation. Campus security has stepped up patrols in the forested area beyond student residences in the northwest corner of the campus where the animals have been sighted.
"We are keeping a constant watch and have a direct line to a conservation officer," said Mortenson. "Right now as a precaution we are asking people to avoid being in that area and if they see any sign to report it to campus security."
