Prohibited driver caught with drugs
A 25-year-old Trail man learned the hard way - it doesn't pay to drive when you are already prohibited.
The man was arrested Monday after a police officer noticed the vehicle heading north along Harvey Avenue and notified a second officer about the prohibited driver.
"Police located the black Ford F150 turning onto Highway 33 and confirmed the registered owner was in fact prohibited from driving," says Cst. Kris Clark.
"The officer initiated a traffic stop in the Wendy's parking lot on Highway 33, but found more than he bargained for."
Clark says the officer smelled marijuana coming from the cab of the truck and searched the vehicle.
"The search revealed 7.3 lbs. of marijuana and more than $7,000 in cash. The vehicle was impounded and police seized the drugs and cash."
Two men in the vehicle both from Trail, age 25 and 32, were arrested.
Clark says the 25-year-old man was the registered owner of the vehicle. He faces charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Driving While Prohibited.
He has been released to appear in court at a later date.
Charges have not been laid against the second man.
