'Carma' car for Carla

Carla Miles and her three kids are feeling less stressed and safer on the roads, thanks to a new car.

Miles is the recipient of a vehicle through 'The Carma Project', a program designed to help a family who is in need of a vehicle, to get to their jobs, school and to the store.

The West Kelowna mother learned about 'The Carma Project' from her councilor at the the Elizabeth Fry society.

"Just getting to and from school, getting the kids around, I was working two part time jobs at the time and I basically just told them the stress was so high because my vehicle kept breaking down and I guess they decided I was the best fit."

Integra Tire Auto Centre fixed up a donated 1993 Infiniti for Miles and her family, the cost of the insurance and taxes will be her responsibility.

Bruce Stranaghan, of Integra Tire, explains that Miles was chosen from a number of applicants.

"This is the second car we've given away and we have another one waiting in the wings to give away."

Stranaghan says everyone who helped with the first project is back for the second time.

"Everyone here is actually all twitter based - friends- some how we all know each other through twitter and that is how it all kind of started."

The entire day was a major experience for Miles starting with a pampering at home, to riding in a limousine, to the new car, to receiving unexpected gifts from Choices Market and RauDZ Regional Table.

When asked what it will mean to have a reliable vehicle Miles replied, "Freedom, and not to have the worry…. and to have the burden lifted off my shoulders."

The vehicles for 'The Carma Project' are donated from businesses and members of the community.
