The doors of the Parkinson Activity Centre officially opened today with a ribbon cutting ceremony, facility tour and sneak peek at the new equipment and recreational space.
The two-storey building owned by the City of Kelowna will provide the community with additional recreation opportunities and serve as the new home to the Senior Centre Society.
“Kelowna residents can now enjoy all the benefits this new facility has to offer,” says Don Backmeyer, Sport & Event Development Manager. “Not only will it help create new recreational and social opportunities for members of the Senior Centre Society, but it will also help build a strong and vibrant community through healthy active living options.”
The Parkinson Activity Centre is a multi-use facility that includes a main hall, commercial-grade kitchen, activity room, meeting room, as well as a computer and billiard room for the Senior Centre Society’s use exclusively. The facility, to the Parkinson Recreation Centre, will offer convenient transit services, improved security and access to both indoor and outdoor recreational amenities.
Activities and programs previous offered at the Water Street Senior Centre have been re-located to the Parkinson Activity Centre. Starting in January 2013, the City of Kelowna’s Recreation and Cultural Services department will also offer new programs out of the facility.
