Kelowna

RCMP focus on 'Johns'

The Kelowna RCMP continue efforts to reduce crime in Kelowna by employing some of their crime reduction strategies.

Earlier this month, the Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section and Downtown Enforcement Unit conducted a downtown-based project focussing on the 'street level sex trade' by targeting the consumers of that trade, commonly referred to as 'Johns.' The project was part of a continued initiative by the Kelowna RCMP to reduce crime in Kelowna.

As a result of the project, eleven men were arrested for Communicating for the Purpose of Obtaining Sexual Services of a Prostitute. The ages of the accused subjects range from early 30's to mid 70's. All of the accused men were released from police custody to appear in Court at a later date or attend counseling via the Prostitution Offenders Program.

The Kelowna RCMP will continue to target street level crime and prolific offenders in an effort to reduce crime in Kelowna and increase the effectiveness of policing in our community.
