Woman donates $900K

The Kelowna General Hospital has received a very generous gift from a very generous lady.

The estate of Edith Caroline Graham gave a $900,000 bequest in support of Cardiac care to the KGH foundation.

Edith Caroline Graham passed away on April 28 of this year at the age of 96. According to Diane Paterson, the Gift Planning Officer at the Foundation, KGH was not aware that Graham had included the gift in her will.

"It wasn’t until a notice was received from the Estate lawyer advising that the Foundation was the residual beneficiary of her estate," says Paterson.

Graham moved to BC in 1945 after receiving her teacher's training in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She carried on with her education by obtaining her Master’s Degree in Education at U.B.C.  and spent most of her teaching career at the Richmond Senior Secondary School, retiring in 1981 after 45 years.
In 1986 Graham moved to Kelowna to live in the Wedgewood Retirement home for many years.
Paterson says she had many family members who had cardiac problems which was her motivation to support cardiac care at KGH.
“The Kelowna General Hospital Foundation is honoured to receive this very generous bequest. We are working with Edith’s family to ensure her gift is recognized in a manner she so richly deserves," explained Paterson.

The KGH Foundation is an independent, volunteer-driven charitable organization committed to enhancing the delivery of healthcare to the patients of KGH and its associated facilities.
