Thieves caught on video

The owner of a computer store on Ellis Street in Kelowna is going to beef up security once again after his store was robbed for the fourth time in five years.

Martin Wengenmeier has video evidence of three thieves who cased his store, Next Generation Computers, late Wednesday afternoon then showed up at 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning and made off with several items from his showroom floor.

"They got a big laser printer, an all-in-one computer unit and two laptops," says Wengenmeier.

"There were three people in total. They pulled up in front of our shop, in a big van, and broke in."

Wengenmeier says the thieves drilled out the lock in the front door to get in and were inside for just a few minutes before taking off.

"I think they had a bit of a game plan."

He says he has already given all of the serial numbers to the police in hopes of catching the thieves, in the event they try and pawn the merchandise.

"As far as we're concerned the main thing here is that people maybe recognize these guys and get them caught," says Wengenmeier.

"They had a big van so I think they do this regularly so it would be nice to put a stop to it."

Wengenmeier says the thieves also didn't seem too concerned about the two large surveillance cameras in the store.

As for future measures, Wengenmeier says he is contemplating installing large metal roll shutters in the future.

Cst. Kris Clark says the theft remains under investigation.

Anyone with information concerning the suspects or the theft itself are asked to call Kelowna RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
