1, 2 the rain is coming for you
When it rains, it pours. The soggy start to Monday morning broke a record rainfall for Kelowna.
According to Doug Lundquist at Environment Canada, approximately 14 mm of rain has fallen today (Monday) compared to 4.6 mm back in 1997, but there is no reason for concern.
"Every time you have a significant storm any time of the year, it's usually a record daily amount, and it's easy to break a daily record because we're in a dry belt," he says.
Lundquist says instead, the focus should be on monthly rainfall records, not daily ones.
In Kelowna, on average 26 to 52 mm of rain falls in a month and the record for October is 66 mm (of rain) set back in 1973.
Lundquist explains Kelowna is close to hitting that record rainfall for October.
"It's strange, it seems like there is just a band of rain over us. It's dryer up north and to the south," he says.
The rain should clear up later Monday evening and Tuesday is expected to be dryer. However, as the goblins and ghouls head out on Wednesday evening heavy rain is forecast for the Central Okanagan.
"It will be a rainy day (Wednesday) so we could push the record. It will be mild, with a low of 3 and a high of 10 (degrees). It is a slow moving system that will move off by Friday morning," says Lundquist.
So, for those planning to trick or treat Halloween night, dress to impress but also try to stay dry with good footwear and remember to bring an umbrella.
