Ironman decision running late
Never say never, but it appears a decision on which city will host the 2013 Ironman Canada race will not be made Wednesday.
The decision on a host city was to come Wednesday; however, World Triathlon Corporation spokesman Steve McFessel says he doesn't expect that will happen.
"I do not think so. You never say never, but I don't think it's going to be tomorrow (Wednesday) but it will be before the end of the week," says McFessel.
He says the WTC needs the additional time in order to come to "the right decision."
Kelowna is in the running to host the race along with Whistler and Huntsville, Ont.
A change in venue was needed after Penticton dropped the Ironman Canada event after 30 years.
The Ironman event would be held a week after the Kelowna Apple Triathlon, a much smaller race that features Olympic distances.
City officials have stated since the start of the process that they will not do anything to jeopardize the Apple Traithlon and believe the two events can compliment each other.
McFessel says he's not sure whether the announcement will be made in Tampa or in Hawaii, site of this weekend's World Ironman Championships in Kona.
How the announcement will be handled will be determined once the winning community has been contacted.
A member of the World Triathlon Corporation was in Kelowna last week to get a look at the city and the proposed swim, bike, and run courses.
