Greenway green light
The Mission Greenway in Kelowna will expand by 2.83 hectares thanks to a grant from the provincial government.
The parkland, with an assessed value of nearly $475,000, was made available to the City of Kelowna through the government's Sponsored Crown Grant program.
The land fills a gap in the Greenway allowing the city to complete a network of trails running along the creek side.
The grant was announced Friday by Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, Steve Thomson and Community, Sport and Cultural Development Minister Bill Bennett.
"Kelowna is a great community and this additional land improves an existing network of parks and green spaces," says Thomson.
"Supporting the expansion of the Mission Creek Greenway Regional Park is another example of the BC government's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all British Columbians."
The 2.83 hectares of land is situated on the east side of Mission Creek north of the bike skills park.
"The government's generous grant of Crown land will allow us to complete the jewel in the Central Okanagan Regional District regional park system," says Kelowna Mayor, Walter Gray.
