The City of Kelowna has yet to return from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) Convention in the provincial capital this week, but early estimates have the trip costing taxpayers $5,000.

Four members of city council as well as city manager Ron Mattiussi are in Victoria this week representing the interests of Kelowna taxpayers at the UBCM, the voice of local government in the province.

City director of financial services Keith Grayston says expense figures won’t be in until at least next week but estimates the cost of sending city representatives to the annual convention at a cost of about $1,000 a head.

Representatives at UBCM included councillors Rob Hobson, Maxine DeHart, Luke Stack, and Gerry Zimmermann.

Representatives are expected to return to Kelowna Friday afternoon.

Mayor Walter Gray did not attend the convention. Gray presented the city’s bid to host the Canada Ironman Triathlon to World Triathlon Corporation in Florida this week.
