Kelowna firefighters will be donning something a shade lighter than their usual red uniforms for the next week.

All members of the department will wear pink T-shirts while on duty through Oct. 1. They are showing their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure.

Gayanne Pacholzuk, fire inspector for the Kelowna Fire Department, says they have partnered with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

“We’ll be selling the pink shirts to raise money and awareness for this great cause.”

The 21st annual CIBC Run for the Cure takes place on Sunday, Sept. 30, at City Park in Kelowna. Opening ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m. Participants can walk or run 1K or 5K.

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure is the largest single-day, volunteer-led fundraising event for breast cancer in Canada. For more information, visit www.cbcf.org.
