7 million pounds of concrete
More than seven million pounds of concrete will be poured in a Pandosy neighbourhood Friday.
And, if you're thinking that's a lot, you'd be right.
In fact, the concrete being poured by SOPA Square at the site of their 'Granville Island' style market represents the largest volume suspended slab pour ever undertaken in Kelowna.
The concrete pour will cover 34,000 square feet.
It will consist of 1,450 cubic metres of concrete, the equivalent of 152 concrete truck loads, and it will take 10 hours to complete.
Once the roof is poured workers will begin installing windows and completing the exterior of the commercial space.
The marketplace will feature rotating kiosks and local artisans. It is expected to be compete and open this fall.
The 98 townhomes and apartments are scheduled to open in the fall of 2013.
