FortisBC repair crews were called to the scene of a natural gas leak in the Black Mountain area late Saturday morning.

"At 11:30 this morning FortisBC received a call to 2492 Largo Vista Street," says Fortis spokesperson Michael Allison.

"There had been some third-party damage to our natural gas pipeline in the area."

There had been some construction work underway in the area when the leak occurred.

"Repair crews arrived on site and proceeded to make the area safe. The gas was 'blowing clear.' When natural gas blows clear, it's actually lighter than air, which means it rises and dissipates quickly, which is safer than with other types of gas," says Allison.

"The crews are making repairs which involves digging up the road, crimping off the pipe and then repairing the pipe."

Because the damage occurred in a relatively remote area, no customers were affected by the leak.

"There's actually no customers at that property so there was no customer service interruptions," says Allison.
