The kitchen of the Knife and Slice Cafe has been destroyed by a fire, and neighbouring businesses were damaged by smoke, Tuesday night.

Platoon Captain Henry Roelefs says a call came in around 7:20 p.m. after reports of flames inside a business at 1443 Ellis Street.

"The fire was confined to the kitchen of the Knife and Slice, but the eating area along with next door businesses Kelowna Hot Yoga studio and the Log Barn have been heavily damaged by smoke."

A class was being held inside the Hot Yoga studio at the time of the blaze, everyone was evacuated without incident.

In an email Hot Yoga owner Brenda Wowk says, "The fire was next door at knife and slice and we will not know much more until tomorrow morning (when the fire inspector arrives). Therefore scheduled classes will be cancelled for tomorrow Wednesday August 15,  and we will keep the schedule updated online as soon as we know more."

Crews managed to extinguish the flames within half an hour, but Roelefs says firefighters will remain on scene over night to check hot spots within the building.
