Fire danger increases over weekend

The fire danger rating has increased in the Okanagan over the weekend due to high temperatures combined with low precipitation.

With lightning in the weather forecast for later this afternoon, starting in the South Okanagan and moving north to the Clearwater fire zone, fire crews are strategically placed in seven zones, said Kayla Pepper, fire information officer with the Kamloops Fire Centre.

“If we do see additional lightning fires started, we want the public to take precautions to not start fires themselves, such as leaving campfires unattended,’ she said.
