Snowbirds performance a go
All systems are go for today's (Wednesday) performance by the Snowbirds.
The Snowbirds are scheduled to put on a 45-minute, low altitude show over Okanagan Lake in Kelowna beginning about 4 p.m.
Castanet will stream the show live on our main page.
The show was put in jeopardy earlier in the week due to the Wilson's Landing Fire.
Smoke and an abundance of planes and helicopters actioning the fire threatened to ground the Snowbirds, however, the progress made on the fire the last 48 hours means the show is a go.
Scott Harrold, liaison between CH.I.L.D., (Children with Intestinal and Liver Disorders Foundation) the charity sponsoring the show and the Snowbirds, says meetings between all parties concerned Tuesday were positive.
"Everything is a go," says Harrold.
The best vantage point to see Wednesday's performance is at Waterfront or City parks or high above on Knox Mountain.
Due to the higher than anticipated traffic, Knox Mountain Drive will be closed to incoming traffic from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
RCMP say the zone is absolutely essential for the safety of the performance and any violation of the sterile zone will result in the grounding of the Snowbirds.
Meantime, Harrold says people can assist CH.I.L.D. in fund raising efforts by making a donation at the show or purchasing T-shirts or souvenirs.
People can also donate on-line at www.child.ca.
