Carolina Moreno never thought something like this would happen to her in Canada.

Moreno, a business student at Okanagan College, has only been in the country for three years after coming from her homeland in Colombia.

She says nothing like this ever happened back home.

Moreno says she was sleeping on the living room sofa about 3 a.m. when a man entered her ground floor apartment in the Waterscapes through the outdoor patio.

"I was sleeping on the sofa and I started feeling cold so I opened my eyes and I noticed the door was open," says Moreno.

"I went to close it and that's when I saw him. When he saw me he started running. I tried to grab him but I couldn't."

Moreno says the burglar was in the kitchen taking several beer from the fridge when she saw him.

"When he came in he must have got my purse and put it in his backpack because when I saw him I didn't see my purse in his hands. He got my iPhone and then went to the fridge."

Moreno says all of her documentation, passport, identification and credit cards were in her purse.

Fortunately, someone found it and returned it to RCMP Detachment.

She got everything back except the iPhone -- and the beer.

Moreno says she doesn't think the police will be able to find the man responsible but wants to warn people this man is out there on the loose.

"The word must be spread and people need to take their security seriously and lock their doors, their patios and be really careful," Marino added.

Her patio door was not locked at the time of the robbery.

"I cannot imagine if he would have had a gun or any kind of weapon. If this happened in a 'secured' area, I cannot imagine what can happen in a troubled or not so secured one."
