Court update: Verma and Foerster

Two men charged in two separate murders had their files before the court on Monday.

A pre-trial conference took place for Joelon David Atish Verma, by phone, in a closed room of the Supreme Court.

Verma, is charged with the first degree murder in the death and robbery of Brittany Irving. He will be back in court on July 23 to fix a date for trial.

The second case before the courts, was that of Matthew Foerster, who is facing several charges on top of the first degree murder of Armstrong teen Taylor Van Diest.

It was confirmed, by Provincial Court Judge, that the 26-year-old Cherryville resident would have the charges of of Break and Enter, assault and Unlawful Confinement stemming from a home invasion back in 2004, as well as charges of Sexual Assault and Unlawful Confinement relating to an incident at the Garden of Eden in Kelowna in 2005, committed to Supreme Court by Judge alone.

Foerster, waved his right to a preliminary hearing and consented to have the matters go directly to Supreme Court, which will take place on July 23.

A pre-trial conference, for the charge of first degree murder, will likely take place in August.
