Awarded for helping furry friends
Local entrepreneur Kevin Edgecombe was recently named the BCSPCA Philanthropist of the year, for his work in helping to renovate the Kelowna branch and for other volunteer efforts.
Branch manager Suzanne Pugh says Edgecombe has been helping the shelter for many years, not only with his company Edgecombe Builders, but also at a personal level.
"The contribution Kevin has made on a personal and a professional level has just been staggering."
The Kelowna resident chose the BC SPCA to dedicate his time to because he believes it requires a specific element of charity work.
"Everybody needs to find a passion, and find something they believe in. I happen to believe wholly in the SPCA and what they do. For me, it's when you give something to somebody that you know can never pay you back, it's a pretty good feeling."
Edgecombe was an integral part of an extensive renovation of the Kelowna Branch, he is also a longstanding sponsor for the shelter's annual golf fundraiser.
"This event is a ton of fun, it's sold out every year, but most of all what's really cool about it, is that it has raised a ton of money for the branch here in Kelowna."
Over the last seven years the golf charity event, which is the biggest of its kind in Kelowna, has raised over $280,000, and this year Edgecombe expects it to bring in $75,000.
The seventh annual BCSPCA Charity Golf Tournament will take place June 22. To volunteer for the event please contact the Kelowna branch.
