Plane pull pulls in over $40K

One of the most unique fundraisers anywhere took place at the Kelowna International Airport on Friday.

The Third Annual United Way Plane Pull Challenge attracted 33 teams trying to pull a Convair aircraft 20 feet down the tarmac.

Building on the success of their first two years, the United Way is reporting they raised over $40,000 during yesterday's pull.

While some teams posted times more easily measured with a calendar, others practically flew down the runway.

The Kelowna Flightcraft team recorded the best time, needing just 9.29 seconds to complete the course. The PCL Highrisers were a close second with a time of 9.88 seconds.

Other awards were presented to "Grant Thornton’s Nice Assets" for best team spirit, while "Farris Bueller's Day Off" took top honours for having the best costumes on.

Interior Savings Credit Union, well known for its generosity and fundraising efforts, received the nod for raising over $3,000, the most of any team competing.
