Lake Country fire officials responded to a structure fire late Friday morning and also discovered a medical marijuana grow-op.

When they arrived around 10:00 a.m., smoke was billowing out of the windows.

The fire, which apparently started in the kitchen, spread throughout the interior of the home.

The 53 year-old man received burns to his face and hair but did not require medical attention.

A 200 plant marijuana grow operation was located inside the residence and the preliminary investigation confirms that the man had the appropriate licences from Health Canada.

The house has been deemed uninhabitable by the Bylaw office due to the fire and the effects of the grow.

The federal government – through Health Canada - issues three kinds of medical marijuana licences: one for possession; one for production and a third one for people designated to grow for medical pot users.

In order to be legally authorized to possess marijuana for medical purposes, a person must apply to Health Canada under the Marijuana Medical Access Regulations (MMAR).
