Recognition:
Erik Madsen, Nick Novak and Daniel Harrison, Students at George Elliot Secondary School - Winners of the BCAA Dry Grad Video Contest
The Board of Education recognized Erik Madsen, Nick Novak and Daniel Harrison for winning first place for their video “One Way” in the 2011/2012 BCAA Dry Grad Video Challenge.
Declaration:
Harmony Day 2012
The Board Chairperson made the following declaration:
WHEREAS Harmony Day recognizes that the citizens of the Central Okanagan come from all over the world; and,
WHEREAS Harmony Day provides an annual opportunity for the School District No. 23 community to celebrate cultural diversity while committing to mutual respect; and,
WHEREAS Harmony Day creates sensitivity to and respect for differences; and,
WHEREAS Harmony Day allows School District No. 23 to focus on the mission of educating students in a safe, inspirational learning environment where every student develops the knowledge and skills to be a lifelong learner and a healthy productive member of the global society; and,
THEREFORE I, Rolli Cacchioni, as Chairperson of the Board of Education of School District
No. 23 (Central Okanagan), do hereby proclaim February 22, 2012 as
Harmony Day in School District No. 23 (Central Okanagan).
Black History Month
The Board Chairperson made the following declaration:
The Board of Education of School District No. 23 (Central Okanagan) declares the month of February 2012 as “Black History Month” in School District No. 23 (Central Okanagan).

School District No. 23 (Central Okanagan) 2011 Safety Review
The District Health & Safety Manager, Ken Emmons, presented the 2011 Safety Review. Additionally, Mr. Emmons announced that the British Columbia Municipal Safety Association and WorkSafeBC recently recognized School District No. 23 for demonstrating a continuous commitment to raising the standard of worker health and safety in Local Government. School District No. 23 (Central Okanagan) is the first district in the province to exceed audit expectations in both areas of Return to Work programs and Health and Safety Management.

Suspension Summary Report
The overall trend line for the number of indefinite and definite suspensions is declining. The implementation of alternative programs is making a difference in reducing the number of suspensions.
