Flights both into and out of Kelowna International Airport (YLW) were cancelled Saturday night and Sunday morning due to limited visibility.
Janelle Hynes, the YLW Airport Communications Coordinator, says the Reduced Visibility Operations Plan (RVOP) was activated Saturday night at 8 p.m due to limited visibility for approaching aircraft.
“The visibility was actually less than a quarter mile at the airport due to fog in the valley. The RVOP was deactivated at 10:09 a.m. Sunday once visibility improved.”
Seven flights scheduled to arrive Saturday evening were cancelled along with night flights Sunday morning.
Hynes says the Canjet flight from Cancun was 14 hours late arriving to YLW.
Passengers whose flights were cancelled are expected to be rebooked by their airline. People flying, picking up, or dropping off passengers are asked to check the status of their flight at ylw.kelowna.ca.
