Update: One dead in gangland shooting

One man is dead and several others injured following a gangland style shooting in front of the Delta Grand Hotel Sunday afternoon.

Police are saying very little about Sunday's attack including the number of victims or the identity of the deceased, however it is being widely reported reputed Red Scorpion Jonathan Bacon was the man killed.

RCMP Const. Steve Holmes says police were called to the hotel after suspects opened fire on a white Porsche as it was leaving from the front entrance of the hotel.

"Several people inside the SUV received gun shot wounds. One is dead," says Holmes, who would not confirm how many people were injured as a result of the shooting.

Witnesses say five people were taken to hospital.

"A silver/green SUV drove off down Cawston and disappeared in an unknown direction."

While not providing details of the deceased or the number of suspects involved, Holmes did state the public is not at risk.

"While incidents such as this are quite rare in Kelowna, it is still shocking and traumatic for those who witness it," added Holmes.

"Swift and extraordinary measures are being taken to find those responsible."

Holmes says the investigation remains in its infancy and much of the information police have obtained still has to be verified, including where the victims of the shooting are from.

He says police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the events around the Grand, have pictures or video, to contact RCMP at 250-762-3300 or Crime Stoppers.

He says police are also looking into video surveillance which may be available from the Grand.
