Two figure skaters from Iceland were the first to arrive in Kelowna ahead of the International Children's Winter Games (ICWG), which gets underway Wednesday.

"We're so happy to be here," says head of the Reykjavik Iceland team, Thura Gunnarsdottir.

Gunnarsdottir says the two figure skaters, Julia Gretarsdottir, 15, and Thuridur Bjorgvinsdottir, 13, have been eagerly anticipating the games.

"They had been look forward to coming to Kelowna and meeting all the kids from Canada and all over the world," says Gunnarsdottir.

ICWG Kelowna organizing chair Heather Schneider says Kelowna seems to be looking forward to the games.

"It seems like one of the hottest tickets going right now is for the opening ceremonies," says Schneider.

"We sold out fairly quickly and we've been trying to create more seats."

But Schneider admits it will be difficult to find room for the 400 people on the wait list.

Around town, venues are being prepared for the rush of participants and spectators.

Schneider encourages people to attend the free events.

Full event listings can be found on the ICWG Kelowna website.
