After its most significant face lift in nearly 50 years, the Kelowna Community Theatre is set to re-open Friday.
“On Friday, September 10 we look forward to reopening the theatre to the public,” says Randy Zahara, Kelowna Community Theatre Manager.
“Our customers and outstanding fall performers are sure to be excited to spend memorable moments in the revitalized Kelowna Community Theatre.”
The Kelowna Community Theatre was built in 1962 and has undergone a number of updates over the years. Updates include the addition of a rehearsal hall and the Black Box Theatre, expansion of the lobby and upgrades to the green and dressing rooms.
For most of the month of August and the beginning of September, the theatre has been closed to replace the stage rigging system and repaint the lobby. Additionally, lobby carpets will be replaced with a combination of new carpet and exposed concrete surfaces, creating aesthetic appeal, as well as functionality.
Local metal and concrete artist Remita Kraubner of "Why Art?" is providing an artistic finish to the concrete areas, which have been prepared by Dana Johnson of "Things Concrete."
This most recent round of renovations were made possible through a collaboration between the City of Kelowna's Community Theatre, Building Services, Infrastructure Planning, Recreation & Culture, Community & Media Relations and teams from MQNi Interior Designers and Pulse Group Media & Communications.
As one of the busiest theatres in British Columbia, the Kelowna Community Theatre is the largest dedicated performing arts centre in the B.C. Interior.
The legendary Mickey Rooney will be the first to take the stage as he performs Friday, September 10.
