Long weekend relatively calm: RCMP

by - Story: 56098

Despite a few big events, Kelowna RCMP say the August long weekend was not overly difficult.

Constable Steve Holmes says the Centre of Gravity event was well planned, organized and executed.

“This was evidenced by the ease of policing the event, which drew crowds of up to 16,000. The security company that was hired did an excellent job of maintaining site security and partnering with police when needed,” says Holmes.

He says the security company was specifically helpful with the evacuation of the beaches during the waterborne contamination that occurred Sunday as a result of contaminants that were washed down from the Stewart Centre fire the previous night.

“Police wish to thank the boaters and beach-goers who were largely cooperative when asked to leave the restricted areas.”
