Vehicle clips 93-year-old cyclist

A 93-year-old man escaped a collision with just minor injuries Monday morning.

The man was riding his bike on Highway 33 just after 9 a.m. when he was clipped by a vehicle as it was turning onto Highway 33 from a gas station.

Constable Steve Holmes says the incident happened at 9:15 a.m. as the driver of a Kia sedan tried to pull out from a service station at the corner of Hwy 33 and Hollywood Road onto Highway 33 westbound.

“The cyclist, who rode in front of the vehicle, was apparently obscured by a hedge and was not seen until it was too late. The front bumper of the vehicle clipped the rear tire of the bicycle, pitching the elderly man to the ground,” says Holmes.

He says despite not having a helmet, the victim suffered minor injury and complained only of a sore knee as he was treated by paramedics on scene.

Police took the man's bicycle to his residence.

No tickets were issued.
