RCMP in Kelowna are field-testing a new camera designed to record taser firings.
The Canadian Press, citing internal briefing notes obtained under the Access to Information Act, says the RCMP are testing two types of taser cameras in Kelowna and Moncton, NB, over the next six months.
Field testing was scheduled to begin in December 2009.
Kelowna RCMP media liaison, Constable Steve Holmes, was only able to confirm the cameras were being tested by members of the detachment.
According to the CP report, two types of devices are being tested and results will determine if one or both may be used by the RCMP.
The devices would record video footage of any discharge of a taser from the officer's perspective.
