Registrations open for Campus run

Registration is now open for the first major Okanagan road race of the new decade – Okanagan College’s Campus-to-Campus race series, which will take place on Sunday, March 28 in Kelowna.

The race, now in its eighth year of operation, will offer runners a half marathon, half marathon relay and a 10 km race. With a goal of increasing community, student and staff participation, the College offers races that vary in length and difficulty from a 4 km relay portion to a 10 km race to a 21.1 km half marathon.

Also new this year is an out-and-back course beginning at the KLO Road campus of Okanagan College. The half marathon course will cover 21.1 kms of Kelowna pavement, taking runners along the Abbott corridor into City Park and will turn around atop the first hill on Knox Mountain. Runners will make their way back along the waterfront to Gyro Beach, cross Lakeshore at Richter and finish at the KLO campus.

For new runners or those looking for a shorter distance, the Campus-to-Campus offers a relay race that covers the same course as the half marathon and allows up to five runners to participate.

For the first time in its history, the Campus-to-Campus will offer a flat and fast 10 km course on race day. The 10 km race will begin at 8 a.m. and will take runners along the same first and last portions of the half marathon course but will turnaround in City Park.

Prize money will be offered to the top three finishers in the male and female division of the half marathon. On each side, first place will receive $250, second place will take $150 and the third place finisher will receive $100. Prizes will also be offered to winners of the 10 km and relay portion of the race.

Any non-runners wishing to be involved with the race can lend their time as race volunteers or course marshals.

Students receive a $5 discount. All proceeds from the race are donated to Okanagan College’s campus recreation programs. Half marathon runners receive a long sleeve technical running shirt and a medal. Relay and 10 km participants will receive a t-shirt.

Volunteers will receive a race crew t-shirt. To volunteer, contact Karma Lacoff at 250-762-5445 ext. 4657 or at [email protected].
