Kelowna couple safe after Haiti quake

Update at 9:50 a.m.

Celeste Davidson received a brief email from her parents, Al and Ev Hromek after arriving in the Dominican Republic.

The email reads:

We know that you know we are fine. We are in a 4-star, all inclusive at Santo Domingo Dominican Republic on our way home. We will tell you the story in a couple days! We spent yesterday at the Canadian Embassy, an Oasis in the middle of Port au Prince. We are flying on a military Hercules cargo plane to Montreal bound for Kelowna but we have to schedule yet. We leave here at 3 p.m. our time and probably overnight in Montreal. Many people from Calgary so we will go to Calgary and then home. It is all about availability. We are both very fine. God is so good, angels are Big and gentle. Must send this or lose it, love to all see you soon. Mom and Dad

A Kelowna couple is safe and sound after being caught in Tuesday's earthquake in Haiti.

Al and Ev Hromek have been doing missionary work in the Haitian capital of Port au Prince since last September.

They had been running a six month school at the invitation of the Fellowship of Haitian Pastors.

Their daughter, Celeste Davidson, says her parents have been teaching Bible, business and English to 60 Haitian pastors and lay pastors.

They have had opportunity to speak twice at the President's Prayer Breakfast at the Palace.

The couple appeared on Canada AM Thursday morning.

Davidson says her parents were evacuated to the Dominican Republic.
