The narrow bridge that crosses Mission Creek on Kelowna's Lakeshore Road has been the scene of a fatal car accident.

Just after 11 p. m. Monday night, police say a 31-year old West Kelowna woman was killed when the northbound Mercury Topaz she was driving smashed into a cement post at the south end of the bridge.

Another person, a 54-year old Kelowna man, was rushed to Kelowna hospital with serious injuries.

Police say both people had been at a Christmas function that evening.

RCMP say speed was a factor. They are investigating further to see if any alcohol was involved.

The woman is the third person to die on Kelowna streets this month.
