Thousands of people crowded into City Park around the cenotaph to remember and pay their respects to soldiers who fought for, died for and still serve Canada.
Reverend Dick Fletcher even interrupted the ceremonies to comment on the size of the crowd.
"First of all, I have never seen in all my years here, since 1965, such a gathering as here today. You should all be proud of yourselves, for God has blessed us with a day where we don't all have to freeze to death," he said, drawing chuckles from the crowd.
The day was bright and the sun came out on a number of occasions to warm those who gathered at the park.
Marie Richardson was in the crowd with her four-year-old daughter, Emily, and says she's brought her children to a ceremony every year.
"We're here because it's important to me that my children understand that remembering those who died is important. Their great-grandfather fought in WWI and because he fought, we're here today."
Dozens of wreaths were laid at the City Park cenotaph, in general remembrance by local politicians, leaders, groups and businesses, and in specific memory by a few families.
