More than 600 students from across the province are in Kelowna this weekend, and all of them will leave the Valley a little better when they leave.
As part of a student leadership conference, junior high and high school students volunteered their time at various locations throughout the Valley Saturday morning, says Janice Tapp, teacher at Fraser Lake Elementary and Secondary school and leadership conference advisor.
"They've been sent all throughout the community," says Tapp. "Some are helping with the burn area clean up, some are at seniors' homes, some are at the Salvation Army, all sorts of places."
About a dozen students ended up at the future home of the Kelowna Fire Museum and Education Centre, located at 1630 Water St. There, students were helping remove signage from awnings so they could be reused, helping clean up recent demolition work and preparing the cement walls for painting.
Fire Museum volunteer co-ordinator Kelly Paley says the non-profit group took advantage of the offer of volunteer student help to help prepare the exhibit room of the museum.
The leadership conference ends Sunday.
