The identity of Jennifer Cusworth's killer is all that's missing now that RCMP say they have the individual's DNA.
Cusworth, 19, was murdered on October 16, 1993. Her death remains the longest unsolved homicide in Kelowna RCMP's history.
Lead investigator, Corporal Bill Parmar, says they've made significant progress in the investigation.
"Investigators have determined that the DNA found at the crime scene belongs to the person responsible for Jennifer's murder."
Parmar says the DNA is that of a male but could not determine the individual's age or other details about the suspect's identity.
He says he's confident that, with the new evidence, RCMP are going to solve the case.
"Although this person has not yet been identified, investigators are confident it is just a matter of time."
Cusworth was last seen at a Richter Street house party where she departed on her own.
Parmar says the investigation will focus on those who attended the party.
"In the coming weeks, investigators will be re-interviewing individuals who were in attendance at this party and their associates. While many of these people still reside in the Kelowna area, others have relocated to other areas of the province and to the Calgary and Edmonton area."
He says DNA samples have already been obtained from some who attended the party, but others are refusing to cooperate -- in part because their DNA might link them to another crime. He says some of the people who attended the party now have criminal records including for sexual assault.
Parmar says it's possible that Cusworth's killer has confided in someone.
"Whether that be a relative or a friend. There is someone out there with information regarding Jennifer's murder."
Investigators have set up a tips line dedicated to the Cusworth murder. (250-470-6236)
